A Slightly Older Olewnick

yellowcake.gif

Cue the no-input chorus line in honor of the arrival of Mr. Olewnick’s 53rd annum on the planet. Here’s hoping he spends this historic day prostrate in a chaise beachside, ear buds planted securely in sockets and a frosty beverage & slice of celebratory yellowcake within ready reach.

And a clarion trumpet call to Dennis Gonzalez too, who just so happens to turn the same age on the same day. Serendipity!

[Apologies for the unwieldy gif image above- I’m posting this from work as my antiquated laptop is once again on the blink]

Happy birthdays, gents.

I remember bringing home Dennis' album, "Stefan" (Silkheart) around '87 and noticing in the liners on the back that he shared my exact birthday. He remains the only person I've ever known for whom this is true. If you stand us side by side, the absurdity of any astrological nonsense is readily apparent although, in fairness, he is a helluva nice fellow. I was very pleased to meet him a few years back and a couple of times subsequently. It's an honor to share a day of nascence with him.

Thanks, Derek & Clay.

Many happy returns, but I doubt Yellowcake is what Brian's likely to be listening to in his deckchair..
Haven't met anyone in the music biz born on 26th June 1963, though I do share 26th June as a birthday with Arthur Doyle, delighted to report.

I’m with you one hundred percent on Dennis, Brian. His music is a perfect extension of his person.

I once dated a girl w/ my exact birthday, but alas the romance was not meant to last. The Leo in each of us ultimately couldn’t hang with the other.

Happy belated birthday, Dan. And to Mr. Doyle too on the extreme off chance he frequents Bags. I’ve not heard Yellowcake & doubt that it would be something I’d choose to stream into my ear sockets either. But I couldn’t pass up the Rowe-ish confectionary slice above as an image to pair with the post.

I doubt if Arthur even knows how to switch on a computer, let alone log on to the Internet.
You'd like Yellowcake, Derek - good crunchy West Coast improv, Gino & friends on fine form!

Ha, is that a Keith Rowe painting?

"Ha, is that a Keith Rowe painting?"

No, but it's an hommage to a Keith Rowe painting. The story is that Gino kept on trying to name the group and I kept on rejecting his decisions. When he threw the name "Yellowcake" at me, I told him that was fine but only if he convinced Keith Rowe to paint a piece of yellow cake for our first CD. Instead we got local vocalist (and printmaker) Aurora Josephson to create the print above from Gino and my design, and the designer added the colors. Gino specifically did not want it to be a piece of birthday cake, but it looks like it turned out that way anyway.

So there you go. Happy Birthday!

You can see more of Aurora's artwork and hear her sing late Ayler tunes in just a few weeks:

"A little older, a little more confused", as Dennis Hopper once said.

Happy b-day Brian!
