Destination: Out

a little heads up on the amoebic Destination: Out, a new mp3-oriented site from the folks that publish Chemistry Class. You'll find at least a portion of some of those old, OOP sessions that may or may not see day's light anytime soon. I thought it a nice pick to host the Zorn/Frisell/Lewis bastardization of Kenny Dorham's "Lotus Blossum", which should hopefully be available for download a while longer.

I wonder why you consider their performance as bastardization. I think both "News For Lulu" and "More News For Lulu" are great records. It is a shame that these cds are out of print so many years.

Though the music's not bad, the recording quality on both Lulus is like for shit. Same with Spy vs. Spy --what the hell was Zorn thinking? "It's cool to make my records sound like they were recorded in an underground lake." That booming downtown reverb sounds SO dated now. And ugly.

Must agree completely with djll, in that both Lulu's suffer from all the undesirable artifacts of the digital medium. Downloading these recordings only administers another sonic blow to the ear. How ironic given that the original performers (Clark/Dorham etc) were so magnificently recorded a generation earlier. So much for advancement!
