BAGCOMBANSPAMEX, rev. 1

As Brian pointed out in another discussion, there is an interesting sub-string of minor activity going on here at the site. Guerrilla spamming, I think he called it. What happens? Apparently Google offers spammers more than just data, photo and news searches. Niftily, Movable Type offers an IP banning function and hey, we have our first exilee. Lord knows I've wanted to use it before but our tolerance is greater than that, strapping out somewhere just short of Russian banking and gay teen sites (the two are independent of one another for you adventurous residents of Minsk).

In other news, been listening with big ears to the new For4Ears disc with brother Tomas, Yoshihide, ErikM and Nakamura. Tres fab! Still trying to figure out who's who, but that's only a small part of the fun. Truly great music, get some.

Hey! Give it a couple a days and I'd bet if you Googled "Amplify Guerrilla Korber Russian Teen" you'll come up with a Baglink! Ain't the internet a bitch?

now playing: Curtis Mayfield - Curtis/Live!

I'm most interested to hear that Tanaka disc. What's the rate at EDist?

Listening again to Brackwater. Man. Tomas, this is really good. Otomo's tables sound great with you guys. Perfect fit. Schaumann should jump on this.

the new IMJ titles haven't hit the US yet, either for us or Forced Exposure, but when they do, we sell IMJ titles for $14 (and For 4 Ears titles for $12, thanks to the kindness of Mr. Müller).

I just bought the new Sachiko M CD direct from her last weekend, and it's pretty interesting. Two long, extended sine waves with variations in volume but not much in pitch. Not as richly variant as Derive, but still quite interesting. Just a couple of listens so far, but I'll post a review after I give it a few more on the electroacoustic list.

Spent a good part of the day on Sunday with Sachiko, Otomo and Ichiraku. We had lunch with Alfred Harth and Yuki Sato and then went to Alfred's home for coffee. Otomo was apparently working on making a DVD recently in San Francisco and he and Alfred are planning about a week tour in late July early August in Eastern Europe with ONJQ. Otomo apparently raved to Joe Foster about the Japan shows with Alfred in the ONJQ. They went over quite well from all reports.

ISO did a show here on Saturday night that was hot as firecracker. Really a tense, understated performance. I recorded the entire thing and now have it on DVD and will send Abbey a copy soon as well as the solo shows with Otomo, Sachiko and Ichiraku on Monday. Most of these, I suppose, were fairly standard, save for Ichiraku's interesting video work with Jitter. Sachiko told me hers was a very typical solo sine wave performance, but I'd say it reminds me of the new CD, but compressed to about 24 minutes rather than 60. All three of these musicians also played in various combinations with some of our local players, and I was especially impressed with Otomo's set with Joe Foster, who sometimes posts around these parts in a variety of noms de plume. Otomo is just an incredible improviser--he makes really interesting choices and really pushes the other players with them. A great weekend of gigs overall. Perhaps I'll post some more details later at electroacoustic. In any case, everything was filmed. And I got some great closeup shots of otomo working with his tables.

thankyouthankyou... i'm glad you like the disc :)

what can you guys tell me about the sound of tanaka? i've read about her on the IMJ site but didn't really understand what instrument she was plying...probably something traditional (and singing, too?) how does it sound like?

Just an update: I've installed a blacklist plugin to our blog which should keep out all the spammers.
