My inbox today had some information on some sick sales going right now. Saving money for that new amplifier just seems pointless, long as this type of stuff keeps coming my way.
The first comes from Absinth Records, where the label is offering a nice deal on its first release, Berlin Reeds. Available through February. Click here, and then on "Special Offers" for more info.
Second, Verge Music is offering all mid-priced Hat (Art, Noir, Ology, Now) cd's at $13.00 Canadian (!). Read further to view the list.
Hat Hut Mid-Price List, available through Verge Music
These are available now at mid-price. While they remain in print they can be backordered at this price.

pretty sure that's our normal price on those Berlin comps, although we're out of both now, we have more en route. keeping our prices low on European imports is definitely an ongoing struggle, but we're doing OK so far, I think.
I didn't know that Sugimoto CD was still around, they must have reprinted it. really beautiful disc, people who have only heard his recent supersparse work will be very surprised. Polwechsel 2 is also essential.
Posted by: Jon Abbey at February 6, 2004 5:58 PMI'm wondering if there are any Feldman discs I should stay away from on that list.
Posted by: al at February 6, 2004 6:14 PMJon, good, I was hoping you guys would restock the Absinth stuff. "Opposite" is definitely essential.
Has anyone heard the Mazzacane Connors?
Posted by: Jason at February 8, 2004 6:32 AMyes, I'm pretty much a Loren completist, and In Bern is one of my collaborative faves. the key thing about playing with Loren isn't how good a musician you are, it's how well you understand his aesthetic, and O'Rourke was (is? dunno) a huge Loren fan, helping to bring him out of obscurity by rereleasing In Pittsburgh, and cleaning up the sound on his early acoustic box.
Al, I think the Feldman Hat Arts are uniformly gorgeous, very consistent.
Posted by: Jon Abbey at February 8, 2004 11:07 AMPolwechsel 1 is pretty essential too, I'd say. In fact ALL the Polwechsels are. Can you confirm Jon that the group has now split up? Shame if true.
Posted by: dan warburton at February 8, 2004 9:46 PMlast I heard, to quote Public Enemy, "the future of the group is in doubt." I don't think that totally breaking up is a possibility, they might change the personnel, like they did when John replaced Radu. it's Werner and Michael's project, so in the end, they'll decide.
Posted by: Jon Abbey at February 8, 2004 10:21 PMhey everyone,
since the last time we talked about polwechsel i said that i had been very dissappointed by their concert in zurich with fennesz, it seems fair to say that i saw a fennesz solo gig in berlin a couple of days ago that was absolutely brilliant. also cool: the visuals by john wozencroft...
Posted by: tomas at February 9, 2004 9:37 AMif this was the thursday night show, I was told that the video mix was by "lillevan (of rechenzentrum fame)".
how did you like ausland? a couple of the AMPLIFY outside shows are there, gunter said it was nice...

oh really? thanks for the information, i got it wrong then. yes it was on thursday.
how did you like ausland?
ausland is pretty cool. i'd say it's about half of the tonic (large) but has a very high ceiling. pretty industrial look. i was surprised at how many people came, inspite of the transmediale.
Posted by: tomas at February 9, 2004 11:16 AMFWIW, Cadence has the first Polwechsel for $8.50. Based on the comments here, I just ordered it.
