Jason Kahn: Stimmen
________________________________
“Stimmen” is a piece for bass snare drum, cymbal and radio. I chose as title the German word “stimmen”, (voices, to tune) as it reflected my working process in this piece.
“Stimmen” was recorded using three different microphones — picking up the room, the top surface of the drum and the lower surface near the snare. By mixing these three “voices” I was able to enhance different aspects of my playing. I also used these three microphones to “tune” the piece, working with the various frequency ranges made audible by the placement of the microphones.

Like an audio autoclave eases up to reveal an underwater Meshuggah tune which then swirls down into infinity. Excellent!
Like an incomprehensible simile unfolds to expose an inchoate tangle of gibberish which then rubs its dingleberried ass across the carpet into infinity. Pretentiousness!
Like a virgin, touched for the very first time ooh ooh ooh
